Happy New Year!
Well, 2008 was a craptastic year, wasn’t it? I think alot of people feel like we’re stumbling away from it, shell-shocked and shattered by economic meltdown. Even on a personal level, looking back at my resolutions for last year, the year looks like a big fail; I gained 20lbs, haven’t restarted Galacticast, and totally failed to produce a movie …
Except many great things DID happen last year. Globally, I was one of many voices that sang highly enough of what a wondrous thing the 2008 American election was, and, again looking personally I took a big change in my life, moving out to Los Angeles. Which, despite the headaches of getting a social security number and the credit situation preventing me getting a loan, I do not regret for a moment.
So a New Year calls for new resolutions and challenges to face. Or in this case, old challenges revisited. I’m going to go more specific . In no particular order, here are my goals for this year:
- Get ripped – Last year was a series of starts and stops in the body department. First half actually went really well, as I pursued Turbulence Training, start climbing, and began the One Hundred Pushup Challenge. But with the mid-year move to LA and the introduction of delicious, rich American food into my diet, my fitness goal tanked. No matter! Immediate goal is to lose 10-20lbs by month’s end. After that, it’s rippin’ time.
- Bring back Galacticast – Another thing set by the wayside by the move and other life’s interruptions was the return of Galacticast. Now settled here on the West Coast, surrounded by our many talented friends and co-creators, Casey and I are both hungry to make something new. By Zod, we are coming back this month.
- Produce something OTHER than Galacticast – Galacticast is our baby and our calling card. But the year I’ve spent privately writing, playing with story structure, and deciding what I want to do has me excited about working on different things. I can’t wait to show you all the cool toys I have to play with.
- Produce SOMETHING daily – Last year, I promised daily blog posts AND photos AND videos AND … too much, and I just got overwhelmed. This year, I am going to renew the commitment to MAKE something new a day, whether its a post, a photo, a video, or code.
So what are your resolutions? I’ll keep you honest if you keep me too. Let’s make this year glorious together!

Hey Rudy,
I hope you reach all of your goals this year. My New Years resolution is to not make New Years resolutions. So my goal is accomplished! But I’m with you on the whole weight loss issue. I gained about 20 lbs too and I want to get rid of it by the end of Feb. I won’t be doing any push ups though, I’m on this new diet called broke!!!! So goodbye Chipotle, PizzaHut and Carls Jr. Anyway love the blog tell Casey, that Stacy says hello and I’m still waiting for our awesome 80s web show….”Casey and Stacy stuck in the 80s” Alright Peace Out!!!
I made a resolution a number of years ago and kept it ever since. It was to no longer make resolutions. That said, if I want to change anything I’ll start the day I identify it. Good luck with yours when ever you make them.
@Stacy That’s an awesome diet plan, you should write a book about it and make money off of it.
@Christopher Execute an idea the same day you think of it? You are hardcore GTD.
We’re all looking forward to see what you produce. Whatever it is I’m sure it will be great.
2008 Was a mixed bag for us. I do 12 “Mini-Resolutions” each year and I did okay keeping them. I’m back in school. Lost another 20Lbs (60 down and 40 more to go), and have a lead on a great job. But the financial meltdown has hit us as well. Gone is the dream of rental properties, and to move to where we need to be… we’re going to rent ourselves.
The plan for 2009 is to pass the 50% mark toward my masters, get secured in my new career, spend more time with my boys, get a few more Children’s books done and on Amazon.com, and of course loose another 20Lbs.
Rudy, This is your year! You can lost that fat in 2009. Stay strong!
Craig
@Christopher B – Dude, 20lbs! Way to go on that and all your other success. Here you on the rental thing, but sadly it’s the way things are. By any measuring yard though you had a succesful year. Keep it up!
@craig Thanks Craig! I really need to hop on to the forums. The added peer pressure could also be a rocket booster.
Thanks Rudy I will write a book about it, and I will call it “The Recession Diet”.
Happy New Year Rudy! Hope to see you very soon…
@emily Aww, thanks babe! Ditto here.
Happy New Year to you and Casey cousin.
The entire Sarnia office says hello. One of MY goals this year is to be a little more in tune with my extended family. Unfortunately for you, you are the first victim.
I hope to make it out to LA again this year, if I do, expect a visit…
