Weight: 185lbs
Workout: TT DB-BW Fusion Lvl 1 Workout B
First entry on my fitness challenge, but NOT my first exercise for it. The Dumbbell-Bodyweight fusion workout by Craig is interesting; most Turbulence Training workouts finish with an interval cardio session, but in this program it has been replaced with more pylometric exercises. This should exchange body fat for muscle, accelerating the reduction of my body fat percentage.
Notes on the exercises itself.
The first super-set of dumbbell split-squats and “Y&T”s went smoothly, though the latter seems so simple I think I am missing the point.
Then came the dumbbell chest press. At my strongest, 2 years ago, I topped out at 55lb dumbbells in each hand. Having not done the press in over a month, I was a bit worried, and decided to start lightly at 40lbs. But looks like the hundred push-ups effort had a huge effect! The 40lbs were too light, as were the 45lbs. Next time, I’ll start with the 50lbs.
With the inverted rows on the other hand, I had to resort to the “easier” position. No real shame in that I suppose. Also, I had real trouble with the 1-legged dead-lift. All of my life I’ve been a klutz, so any balancing activities are a recipe for disappointment. Oh well, who dares wins and all that.
Finally, I modified the interval segment itself, dropping the regular push-ups. With the hundred-push-up challenge on my TT off-days, I think I’ve got that covered
Speaking of which, as I haven’t had a chance to do push-ups lately (still getting used to LA commute, and a San Francisco trip through me a bit off whack), I’ve decided to redo week 4. It was completed, and I performed 45 pushups during the exhaustion test, but with the introduction of the TT workouts, I don’t want to kill myself.
My biggest problem? Eating and drinking habits. Let’s just say that San Francisco has good eats, and my company’s “Pile of Money” party for me didn’t help. Today was a mish mash of good and bad; all-bran in the morning (good), soy mocha latte (bad, but not giving this up), curry chicken sandwich (good) with fried (BAD!) and rounded it out with Arby’s (BAD!) I am going to start twittering my meals as a control mechanism; with the world watching, will I behave?
Whew! Long post, but that’s cause I am all excited. Going forward, these will be shorter with specific observations.
